About Srimathy Viswanathan
I am a Mental Health Counselling Psychologist, holding a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Christ University, Bangalore. I believe deeply in the power of human connection and in therapy as a space where people feel seen, heard, and respected.
My work is grounded in empathy, curiosity, and the belief that every individual’s story makes sense when understood in context. I do not believe in reducing people to labels. Instead, I see each person as a unique being shaped by their relationships, experiences, and environment.
Over time, I have noticed a consistent thread in my work, gently exploring patterns that developed early in life, how they manifest in present-day relationships, and how the body responds to stress, grief, and fear. I pay close attention to emotional safety, boundaries, power dynamics, and the pace at which change feels possible, especially for those who have grown up in controlling, neglectful, or invalidating environments.
I work from a trauma-informed and attachment-based lens, where safety, dignity, and emotional regulation come before insight or action. Rather than asking “What’s wrong with you?”, therapy with me centres around “What has happened to you, and what has helped you cope so far?”
My approach is relational, compassionate, and collaborative in nature. I aim to create a space where clients can move from self-judgment to understanding, from survival to choice, and gradually begin to own their stories with greater agency and clarity.

What is psychotherapy and how can it help me?
Psychotherapy is a safe, confidential space where we explore your thoughts, emotions, patterns, and life experiences. It can help you navigate challenges such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, grief, or simply feeling stuck. And my thoughts on it, it’s not about fixing you, rather, it’s about understanding you.
What can I expect in the first session?
Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. You can share what brings you to therapy, your expectations. I’ll ask a few questions to better understand your needs and goals. There’s no pressure to dive into anything too deep, we’ll go at a pace that feels right for you.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or curious about yourself, therapy can help. You don’t need to have a “diagnosis” to benefit from therapy. It’s for anyone who wants to understand themselves better or resolve ongoing emotional conflict to live a intentional and meaningful life.
How long does therapy take?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some people come for a few sessions to work through a specific issue, while others prefer long-term support. We’ll regularly check in to see how therapy is feeling for you and adjust accordingly. Remember that it is a mutual and collaborative space. To simply put, you get to decide on how often and how long you want to avail sessions, while we could provide you guidance based on our experience.
How often do I need to come for therapy?
Most clients begin with weekly sessions inorder to proactively work on the presenting concern. As therapy progresses, some shift to fortnightly or monthly check-ins. We'll decide together what works best for you.
Is everything I share confidential?
Yes. What you share in therapy stays private. The only exceptions are rare situations where your safety (or someone else’s) is at risk or for any legal mandates and even then, we’ll talk about it together.
What if I feel nervous or unsure about opening up?
That’s completely okay and very common. Therapy is a space where all parts of you are welcome, including your uncertainty. You’re in control of what you share, and we’ll move at a pace that feels safe for you.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes, we offer secure and confidential online sessions for those who prefer the comfort and convenience of being in their own space. All you need is a quiet room, a stable internet connection, and yourself. Services are available on phone calls as well.
